For each guide I look at build quality and durability, sizing and fit for the specific pet or tank, ease of cleaning and long-term maintenance, setup requirements, how the product performs over time, and whether it actually solves the problem the buyer has. For aquarium and turtle guides that also includes filtration capacity, heating stability, UVB output, and compatibility with different tank sizes.
If a product category does not have options I can recommend with confidence, I have not written the guide for it yet.
